Woof. It’s going to be hard to sit through the rest of this season unless things turn around quickly. BC dropped their third loss of the season last week against Cal at Alumni Stadium, a game that marks
the beginning of eight-straight game weeks in a row. They will look to right the ship when they travel to Pitt on Saturday, another ACC team that has failed to meet expectations thus far into the season.

What to Watch For
- Which QB will make more mistakes? Pitt’s quarterback Eli Holstein has been picked off five times through four games, twice at the goal line. Sound familiar? If Dylan Lonergan can do a better job of taking care of the ball, and BC’s defense can capitalize on Holstein’s mistakes, that just might be enough to swing the game. The problem for BC is that Pitt loves to send a blitz, and Lonergan has not performed very well under pressure in recent weeks.
- Let Turbo cook. I’m hoping that his goal line fumbles are behind him and we get more performances like we saw against Cal. Turbo Richard ran for 171 yards and two TDs against the Golden Bears. Pitt’s front-7 is more formidable, though, and it might be a struggle to establish the run game if sacks and penalties get the BC offense behind the sticks.
- I’m praying for the Boston College defense to do ANYTHING well. So far this season, it’s been a mix-and-match of what falls apart on defense. One week it’s the run defense, the next week it’s the pass defense, sometimes it’s both. Pitt has really struggled to move the ball this season, so this could be a prime opportunity for the Eagles to find themselves some progress. But with the potential of Pitt star RB Desmond Reid returning, and with much of BC’s secondary banged up, I don’t have much hope.
Prediction: Pitt 31 Boston College 23
Until proven otherwise, I don’t trust the BC defense to make tackles in open space or prevent huge chunk plays in crucial moments. The BC offense will do its usual routine of looking great for 1-2 quarters, then disappointing us miserably by the end of the game. I hope I’m wrong. Because if they are really this predictable by game #5, then it is going to be a long October and November.
