Defensive back Kris Boyd was signed by the New York Jets as an unrestricted free agent back in March. Though he is listed as a cornerback, he is known primarily as a special teams ace, and that was the role the Jets envisioned for him when they signed him. However, Boyd sustained a shoulder injury on August 2, and he has been out of action ever since. Now the Jets have placed Boyd on the injured reserve list, ending his first season with the Jets before it ever began.
The Boyd injury creates a hole on the Jets special teams and an opportunity for a player on the bubble. Perhaps a guy like Jarrick Bernard-Converse takes that opportunity and runs with it.
