Game notes
- Fresh off of a wild Stadium Series game in Tampa, the Bruins wrap up the first half(ish) of the season by paying a visit to ol’ Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers. More Florida Men, etc.
- While the B’s are certainly disappointed with Sunday night’s outcome, their opponents tonight find themselves in even more dire straits: the Panthers have lost four games in a row, with all four losses coming in regulation.
- It’s worth pointing out that I do feel silly saying the Panthers are in a tough spot for being a handful of points out of a playoff berth when they’ve won the Cup two years in a row, but we can’t dwell on past successes, right?
- Matthew Tkachuk has 2G-4A-6PTS totals in eight games since returning from injury a few weeks ago. As a reminder, the Panthers remain without Aleksandr Barkov.
- Again, it’s hard to say things have “gone wrong” for the Panthers after such success. But this season, they’ve been plagued by a surprisingly leaky team defense, with the Panthers currently 26th in the league at 3.27 GA/G. You’d expect a drop with a player like Barkov unavailable, but…
- There’s also a “chicken and egg” thing with Sergei Bobrovsky currently sporting his worst individual stats in a few years, with a GAA over 3 and a save percentage in the high eighties.
- As you likely remember, these two teams met at TD Garden earlier this season, with the B’s losing on a wacky bounce in the final minute of the game.
- While there will still be 20+ games left after the Olympic break, this is a pretty big game standings-wise. The Panthers are nine points out of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, currently occupied by the Bruins. While there are a handful of teams between the two, a win tonight for the B’s would be a pretty big blow for Florida.
- In case you missed it on Monday, the Bruins officially placed Elias Lindholm on injured reserve following his upper-body injury last month. The B’s also recalled Jordan Harris from his conditioning stint in Providence.
See
ya tonight!
