After a 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim on Matchday 1 and a 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen on Matchday 2, Bayer Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag is in trouble per reports.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg offered this information:
🚨🧨 Erik ten Hag is facing an immediate exit at Bayer 04 Leverkusen after just two matchdays.
No final decision has been made yet. Further analysis will follow. A separation before the end of Deadline Day is currently not planned.
Ten Hag is determined to stay and is asking for time to oversee
the major rebuild. Contract valid until 2027.
Plettenberg’s Sky Germany colleague Patrick Berger also had information, which was slightly more damning:
🚨⚫️🔴 An immediate sacking of Erik ten Hag (55/🇳🇱) at Bayer Leverkusen is possible after just two Bundesliga games. Inside the club, there’s growing criticism of his approach, structure and communication.
No decision before #DeadlineDay – but after, it’s wide open. The rebuild won’t count as an excuse.

The big question here is this — what the hell was Bayer Leverkusen expecting after losing so many key players and its highly successful coach, Xabi Alonso. This is not a great team.
Amid all of the transfer craziness surrounding Bayern Munich’s work with Chelsea over a loan deal for Nicolas Jackson, there was an actual game to be played — and Bayern Munich was up to the task even if a slow start and a midgame loss of focus might have given Die Fuggerstädter some hope.
