Ugh, that’s all I can say about this one.
The Washington Mystics were blown out by the New York Liberty, 86-64 on Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center in New York City. Basically one day after the New York Knicks won their first NBA championship since 1973, the Liberty followed that up with a win of their own. Even if the Liberty and Knicks don’t share the same ownership.
Anyway, Washington had a small lead early in the game. But from there, it was all Liberty all the time. Washington was held to just
33.8 percent shooting overall with Michaela Onyenwere leading with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She was the lone bright spot to be honest given that Sonia Citron was Washington’s only other double digit scorer with 12 points.
The Liberty only had two double digit scorers with Jonquel Jones (20 points) and Breanna Stewart (14 points). But they shot 11-of-26 from the three point line and shot close to 50 percent from the field overall to give them a huge win.
The Mystics’ next game is on Wednesday when they play the Connecticut Sun on the road. Tip off is at 7 p.m. ET. See you then.
