After making his NFL debut last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, former CU and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is reportedly set to make his first professional start against the Las Vegas Raiders this upcoming weekend.
Sanders, who holds nearly every single passing record in CU football history, made his NFL debut in last weekend’s game after starter Dillon Gabriel left the game due to concussion protocol. The former Buff struggled in his first NFL action, passing for 47 yards
and an interception, along with four completions on 16 attempts.
It wasn’t necessarily Sanders’ fault that he struggled, as his offensive line didn’t give him any help. Cleveland’s coaching staff has also perplexingly withheld practice reps from their backup quarterback, as offensive tackle Wyatt Teller told media members that he had never heard Sanders’ cadence before Sunday, indicating that he’s not gotten any work with the first-team offense in his seven months in Cleveland.
With Gabriel still reportedly in concussion protocol, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski now has no choice but to put Sanders in a position to succeed. Stefanski’s seat is getting hot, and a loss to the Raiders won’t help make it any cooler. Expect Stefanski to actually throw his support behind Sanders, likely for the first time this year.
Cleveland will kick off against the Raiders at 2:05 p.m. MT, so make sure to check in and support a CU great this weekend.
