We’re back today to get you caught up on the latest from Syracuse’s Olympic Sports.
Ice Hockey (13-14-3, 9-9-2):
Syracuse split a home series with Lindenwood last weekend. The Orange got a 2-1 overtime win
on a goal from Jordan Blouin before dropping a 4-1 decision last Saturday. Syracuse will host RIT this weekend in a big series as the Orange are one point behind RIT in the standings. The school’s have split the previous two games this season.
The Orange will have two connections at the Milan Olympics. Syracuse Head Coach Britni Smith is on the coaching staff for Team Canada while alum Akane Hosoyamada will compete in her 3rd Olympics as part of Team Japan.
Track and Field:
Syracuse split their team at two meets over the weekend with athletes competing at Cornell and in Boston. At Cornell, Talea Buxton won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.29. Nicea Jones and Shayla Ford were 2nd and 4th in the 400m while Maisie Burns took 4th in the mile. For the Syracuse men, Isaiah Hayes won the 60m hurdles in a time of 7.98.
In Boston, Emma Eastman had the top performance taking 18th in the 3000m with a time of 9:18.17. For the men, three Orange runners finished in the top 20 of the men’s 3000- Benne Anderson (12th), Peter Walsdorf (13th) and Ben Gabelman (18th).
Syracuse will head to Utica to compete this weekend.
Tennis (2-2):
It was a tough weekend in Florida for the Orange as they dropped both matches losing 6-1 to Florida Atlantic and 7-0 to Florida International. Monica Wojcik had the lone Syracuse victory over the weekend.
Syracuse will host UMass and Boston University next weekend.
