In a game that has always meant so much to the Sun Belt west division, are you surprised it ended any other way?
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns overcame a late flurry of offense from Arkansas State, stopping
Jaylen Raynor at the goal line to defeat the Red Wolves 34-30 in Jonesboro in front of a national tv audience.
The game started in disaster for Michael Desormeaux’s team as the home squad jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks to a a field goal and a scoop and score on defense. Then, the scoring affair came to life as both teams scored 17 points in the second quarter to make it a 27-24 lead for Arkansas State at the break.
Louisiana regained the lead in the third on a 36-year scamper from Bill Davis and were able to hold on until the end, despite several opportunities for Butch Jones’ team to win the game and secure their bowl eligibility.
On the night, Lunch Winfield finished 18/25 for 147 yards while adding 89 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to lead Louisiana. Raynor was 25/43 for 256 yards while Devin Spencer had 71 yards and a touchdown.
With the victory for Louisiana, both teams now sit at 5-6 as they await their season finales and a chance at bowl eligibility.
