The Dallas Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday night. Obviously we all understood over the last few weeks (even before that) how long their odds of going to the postseason were, but things becoming official makes them, well, official.
As this is the case it means that the next time that Dallas can reach the playoffs, speaking literally, is the 2026 season. You have to make the playoffs in order to do things like reach the Super Bowl and/or NFC Championship Game (something we
know all too well, unfortunately) and all of this officially means that The Drought™ will reach a certain distinction.
If you are at least 30 years old you know how turning that particular age felt seismic. It is an even number and the mark of a new decade. You are well into adulthood, perhaps a parent. You get the picture.
Well, The Drought™ will officially turn 30 years old. Again, we assumed it would as the Cowboys had long shot odds to reach the playoffs, but that is over and done with now. In a month’s time The Drought™ will officially (not in approximating or rounding sort of way) turn 30 years old.
Consider the symmetry here. At that time the Cowboys were winning Super Bowl XXX (30). They had won five of the 30 Super Bowls to date. They had appeared in eight of them! The exact same amount of time has passed and they have added zero to those numbers.
