From clutch offensive performances to lockdown defensive efforts, Mountain West Connection players of the week define the elite play that is the standard in the Mountain West. As teams battle for positioning in the standings and momentum heading into the conference tournament, these players took their programs to the next level
this past week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (UNLV)
The junior guard continued his impressive run of elite play this past week, leading the Rebels to victories over San Jose State and Boise State. On the week, Gibbs-Lawhorn averaged 30 points, three assists, and three steals, He was elite in leading the Rebels to an overtime come from behind victory over Boise State where he had 36 points.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nana Owusu-Anane (Grand Canyon)
The senior forward had another impressive week on the defensive side of the ball averaging eight rebounds, two steals, and a block in games against San Jose State and New Mexico.
Newcomer of the Week
Drew Fielder (Boise State)
The Georgetown transfer and Boise native tied his career high of 27 points in an overtime loss to UNLV. Fielder was a force in the paint and behind the arc. He also added six rebounds. If Fielder can keep up the impressive numbers, he should be in the conversation for all-conference honors.
Freshman of the Week
Jake Hall (New Mexico)
The Lobos played only one game this week. But Hall impressed in the Lobos road victory over Grand Canyon. The freshman out of Carlsbad, California had 23 points, four rebounds, and three steals in one of the toughest road environments in the Mountain West.
