The Washington Commanders training camp rolls on for Day 9 in Ashburn, VA. The team had off yesterday, and they’re dealing with an injury to one of their top players. Laremy Tunsil reportedly tore his triceps in a 1-on-1 drill with Odafe Oweh and is expected to miss some, or all, of the season.
Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before the start of today’s practice. Offensive coordinator David Blough is scheduled for a Q&A after practice, along with players getting interviewed on the field. Laremy
Tunsil will require surgery on the triceps injury suffered on Saturday in a 1-on-1 drill vs Odafe Oweh. Quinn said its a tough loss for the team, and he felt bad for Tunsil who’s a leader on and off the field.
Brandon Coleman will move over to LT, the position he started 18 games at over the last two seasons with Washington. The team didn’t want to move Josh Conerly Jr from right tackle to the left side where he played in college. Quinn said they want to continue developing him at the position he played as a rookie. Quinn also said they weren’t planning on bringing in another tackle after Tunsil’s injury. The Commanders signed three OL before Tunsil was injured, and they will work with the players currently on the roster.
Trey Amos also left practice early on Saturday, and Quinn said he landed awkwardly on his ankle while covering a deep pass to Terry McLaurin. He won’t be at practice today, and the team will have a better idea when he’ll return in the next few days. Amos had just returned from the broken fibula that ended his rookie season, and he was also dealing with some soft-tissue soreness that kept him out of all offseason activities. The second-year CB is important to the Commanders short- and long-term plans on defense, but injuries have restricted his ability to develop with the team.
