Other than the Christian Wilkins saga, it has been a fairly quiet and staple training camp and preseason for the Las Vegas Raiders under first-year general manager John Spytek and coach Pete Carroll. Yet, with the regular season looming in 13 days, there is now potential drama brewing
Several media outlets have reported that Las Vegas No. 1 wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested to be traded because the two sides have not been able to come to terms on a contract extension.
Meyers is entering the final of a three-year contract with the Raiders and is making less than $11 million, which is below market. Meyers became the Raiders’ No. 1 wide receiver last October after the Raiders traded Davante Adams to the New York Jets.
Meyers responded well to the challenge. Meyers had a career year in 2024 as he had 87 catches for 1,027 yards. He also didn’t have any drops last season.
NFL Media state the Raiders don’t plan on dealing Meyers. So, it remains to be seen how this is resolved.
The Athletic has reported the Raiders are among the teams looking at veteran receivers, so perhaps this development will have an affect on that interest. The team could look for a veteran in a trade or after Tuesday’s roster moves are made. Former Raiders’ receiver Amari Cooper is probably the best current free-agent option.
