Newcastle United’s concerns over Tino Livramento eased slightly after early indications suggested his setback is not a repeat of the serious knee injury that previously sidelined for a long period of time.
The 22-year-old defender was stretchered off during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal following a collision with William Saliba, sparking fears he had suffered another anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) blow.
“He’s such a big player for us in so many different ways — his versatility, his attitude, his quality,” Eddie Howe said. “If we’re going to miss that for any length of time, it is going to be a huge blow.”
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards shared an update on X after the game, providing reassurance while warning of a potentially lengthy absence.
“It doesn’t sound like Tino Livramento has suffered another ACL injury, which is a relief. Will know more later this week, but he’s likely to be out for a while whatever it is. Huge loss #nufc,” Edwards wrote. “Have to wait for scans etc but fingers crossed he gets some semblance of good news #nufc.”
According to Edwards’ update, the full-back has avoided the worst-case scenario, though Newcastle are still braced for him to miss a sustained spell.
An ACL problem would almost certainly have ended his season, but as it stands, his recovery timeline should be shorter.
Livramento will also have one eye on next summer’s 2026 World Cup, with hopes of earning an England place.
