The New Orleans Saints entered training camp last month with several position battles to sort out, but one of the biggest competitions was at kicker. Charlie Smyth and Tanner Brown have been battling for the starting job, yet with only a few days remaining before the team’s final preseason game, there still isn’t a clear favorite.
Both kickers have been inconsistent throughout training camp and the preseason, leaving the Saints without a definitive answer at the position. Now, the competition has
become even more complicated.
On Monday, the Saints announced that they had signed former Raiders’ kicker Daniel Carlson, adding an experienced option to a position that has already been difficult to sort out. With the preseason finale against the Cowboys on Friday and roster cut deadline looming on Sunday, August 30, New Orleans has an important decision to make at kicker coming fast.
