The Pittsburgh Steelers will open their 2025 season against the New York Jets, and that hasn’t come without any pre-season drama.
All-Pro Cam Heyward made headlines when he held in at training camp, citing a hope for a raise in 2025 as to why he wasn’t practicing. This came roughly a year after Heyward and the Steelers agreed to a two-year extension. Heyward hinted at the possibility of sitting out Week 1 on the latest episode of Not Just Football, simply saying “we’ll see” when asked if he would
play on Sunday.
However, Mike Tomlin doesn’t think it’s much of a discussion, as he said he expects Heyward to suit up and take the field on Sunday.
The Steelers will be without Derrick Harmon on the defensive line. If Heyward does make the controversial choice to sit out, that will leave big responsibilities up to Keeanu Benton and Yahya Black, amongst others.
