The New England Patriots left Cincinnati with their tenth straight victory, but it was not without paying a price.
New England saw a handful of starters depart Sunday’s contest with injuries, which included
rookie left tackle Will Campbell (knee) and left guard Jared Wilson (ankle), both of whom were rolled up on in action.
While Mike Vrabel was not able to provide any injury updates post game, Campbell needed to be carted to the locker room and is now scheduled to undergo an MRI. Wilson, meanwhile, needed a walking boot in the postgame locker room.
“Shoot, I love those guys, man. They’re gonna be alright. That’s the big thing about those guys, they’re going to work hard and they’re gonna be back,” Drake Maye said post game. “They’ve done such a good job for us this year. I love those guys. Will and Jared, they’ve meant a lot to me. Got to know them in different ways.
“It hurts. It’s disappointing, man. But that’s this game. That’s life. They’ll bounce back and help us down the road.”
With Campbell and Wilson sidelined, New England turned to Vederian Lowe at left tackle and Ben Brown at left guard to finish Sunday’s game.
The rookie duo had previously started 10 of 11 games next to each other this season with Wilson just missing the Week 3 contest. Campbell had started every game this season playing 98 percent of the team’s offensive snaps protecting Drake Maye’s blindside.
“I hope he’s back. I hope it’s not as bad as we think,” Stefon Diggs said post game.
Outside of the offensive line, the Patriots also saw special teams captain Brenden Schooler ruled out for the game with an ankle injury while defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga suffered a chest injury. Schooler additionally needed a walking boot after the game.
“Injuries are part of the game,” Vrabel said. “We’ll get those guys back from injury, however it is. Our staff will do a great job, the players will work hard. [Players] got to be ready. No one’s going to feel sorry for us. I’m pretty sure of that.”
