It’s time for your daily update regarding the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk. This report comes from Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
Here’s what Glazer shared about Aiyuk during Sunday’s FOX NFL broadcast:
“I think it’s up to Brandon Aiyuk. And look, these fines and guarantees were taken back because of him not doing what he’s supposed to do in his rehab all the way back in camp, and he’s continued to incure these fines. And I think the answer is, look, if Brandon Aiyuk tries to do what he needs to do to get back with the team, they’re going to love to have him back. But if he continues to miss these things, not only do I not see him playing this year, his career in San Francisco is probably over. It’s up to Brandon.”
Another day, another opinion. The saga continues. Now, all of a sudden, the ball is in Aiyuk’s court to play. That could be true. It could also be leaving out some valuable information on Aiyuk’s end. If the 49ers don’t plan on bringing Aiyuk back in 2026, playing him for the remainder of this season could show teams he’s fully recovered and looks like the 2023 version of himself, potentially raising his value.
Teams like the New England Patriots would love to get their hands on a player of Aiyuk’s caliber. So there shouldn’t be any shortage of suitors this offseason. Then again, you run the risk of Aiyuk not being involved, or potentially looking rusty, as most players coming off a severe knee injury would.
What does Brandon want to do? How does he feel about all of this? The information we’re getting is one-sided, so it feels like the player was in the wrong every step of the way, is selfish, is this and that, but nobody really knows.
