Indiana’s defensive secondary proved crucial during the Hoosiers’ run to the national championship in 2025.
Multiple key members of that group return for 2026. Losing standouts like cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and safety Louis Moore hurts, but the Hoosiers’ staff turned to the transfer portal to fill in the gaps as best as they could.
Two of the most important returners are safety Amare Ferrell and cornerback Jamari Sharpe. Ferrell is entering his fourth season with the program and third as a starter
while Sharpe is entering his fifth season and fourth as a starter.
Ferrell helped lock down the back end of Indiana’s defense alongside Moore in 2025 while Sharpe made the most important play in program history by intercepting Carson Beck on Miami’s final offensive play to seal the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
