Danny Welbeck has been an absolute thorn in our side for several years — six goals and an assist in his last seven Premier League appearances against us — but now he’s ready to do that damage for us (or at least not keep stealing our joy), having reportedly agreed personal terms with the Blues today.
Talks are ongoing about a fee, but Brighton & Hove Albion “won’t unduly stand” in the 35-year-old’s way. That sounds promising financially, but we have a terrible habit of giving Brighton way too much
money way too often, so I’m still half-expecting some outrageous fee for a wantaway player with just one year left on his contract.
Welbeck’s expected arrival is said to be bad news for Nicolas Jackson’s prospects of staying with the club, and he’s now “likely to leave” alongside Marc Guiu, with Liam Delap’s future also uncertain. (Villa in for Jackson then?) After initial reports that also cast a bit of doubt on Emmanuel Emegha’s future, subsequent reports have played down that possibility for the currently injured 23-year-old striker.
So, João Pedro, Welbeck, and Emegha? Could be worse, I suppose … and certainly not a problem if JP keeps firing.
