Bayern Munich’s quest to find an eventual successor for legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had been ongoing since 2020 and the signing of German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. Since then, many potential candidates to replace the 39-year-old have been linked with a move to the Bavarian giants. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Verbruggen is one of those candidates that has been linked to Munich, with said links
persisting for multiple years now. Still, the Dutchman, who bears a striking resemblance to former Bayern transfer target Florian Wirtz, remains nonplussed with questions about his future.
“It’s always a compliment to be linked with such big clubs, but I haven’t really thought about it that much,” Verbruggen said when asked about the links to Bayern, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “My agent keeps me out of that. If something becomes very concrete and decisions have to be made, I’ll hear about it.”
That is probably a good idea, especially considering the summer transfer window just ended. In the meantime, Jonas Urbig will get his chance to show just how well he can fill the shoes of Neuer.
