AEW doesn’t hesitate to get violent and gory… well, pretty much ever, but definitely during Blood & Guts, its version of War Games.
Last night’s sixth annual men’s and second-ever women’s Blood & Guts matches featured plenty of examples…
… but thanks to the skill of those involved and good old-fashioned luck, Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez posted that there were no injuries to winners The Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor), Wrathlander (Harley Cameron and Kris Statlander), Willow Nightingale
& Queen Aminata and The Don Callis Family (Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Wardlow, Kevin Knight, Mark Davis & Jake Doyle) or defeated sides Triangle of Madness (Thekla, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue), Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne and Lena Kross) & Persephone and Will Ospreay, Adam Copeland, the Young Bucks, Darby Allin & Steven Borden:
It appears everyone in both Blood and Guts matches are OK. There was concern about Darby’s tooth after, of all things, his own knee hit his face on a Michinoku driver bump, but turned out he was OK.
That good news doesn’t mean Blood & Guts didn’t take a toll, though. It led the Brawling Birds duo to prioritize their upcoming Full Gear AEW Women’s World title defense over a booking back home in England.
Appearing on Fightful’s In the Weeds this morning (Nov. 5), Pro Wrestling Eve promoter Dann Read revealed that the match Hayter and Windsor had booked for Eve’s show this weekend will be moved. Read explained:
“Those matches do have a massive effect on you. So we’ve spoken to the talent this morning and basically the decision’s been made, considering Blood & Guts was last night, and they’ve got a big Tag Title defense at Full Gear, a week from this Saturday — the decision was to play safe and to reschedule the Hyperactive vs. Brawling Birds match for as soon as we can do it in the future, basically.
“It’s not a thing that’s being forced on us or anything along those lines. It’s literally just a case of talking with the talent, what they’re comfortable with, after what has happened, and what they’ve got coming up.”
Eve is a women’s promotion based in the UK that AEW World champ (and Windsor’s husband) Will Ospreay serves as a creative consultant for. Their Sun., Nov. 6 Elite Encounters II show from Wolverhampton will still feature three AEW talents, including two who were in Blood & Guts with the Birds as Kris Statlander defends the Eve title against Kay Lee Ray, Miyu Yamashita puts the the Eve International belt on the line against Marina Shafir, and Skye Blue goes after Lucy Deathmatch and the Spirit of Eve championship.
Eve is available on the MyAEW service via PPV, with its library streaming on AEW’s FAST channel.
