It was announced on Thursday morning that the players-founded Unrivaledbasketball league will be arriving to Minnesota for the first time ever.
If you are new to women’s basketball, then it’s possible you haven’t heard about what Unrivaled is. Our very own Mitchell Hansen, and resident women’s basketball expert, detailed what exactly it is before its inaugural season in 2025. Since then, the league has been traveling around different cities in the country, bringing the action to the rapidly growing
fan base.
As someone who is a regular viewer, I can tell you this: it is super exciting and fast-paced basketball!
In season three, Unrivaled will finally be coming to the home of one of it’s founders in January 24, 2027.
According to their own press release, the league will continue their trend of traveling across the country during their month-long season like they did in season two. General Manager of Target Center, Amy Rahja shared her excitement:
“Minneapolis has a deep passion for women’s basketball and we’re thrilled to welcome Unrivaled to Target Center for the first time… This is an exciting opportunity to bring some of the world’s best players to our city and give fans a chance to experience the energy and innovation of Unrivaled live. We’re proud to partner with Unrivaled and look forward to creating an unforgettable night for basketball fans across the Twin Cities.”
The league’s statement continues on by sharing that they will be partnering with local Minnesota business focused on women’s sports, A Bar of their Own, for watch parties. If you can’t attend a game or want a fun, safe space to view games with others, I highly recommend you check them out!
Minnesota has always been one of the best states in the country for women’s sports. From the dominant Minnesota Lynx, to other champions like the Minnesota Frost, there is certainly a huge interest for women’s sports here. Having another opportunity to bring more women’s sports to Minneapolis will absolutely draw a crowd.
Previously, not only would find Lynx players like Courney Williams and Kayla McBride participating in Unrivaled, but local legends like Paige Bueckers are participants as well. Even up-and-coming superstars like Olivia Miles plan to be participants next season.
Meanwhile, Phee was season one’s Most Valuable Player and winner of it’s one-on-one tournament, but missed all of season two rehabbing from double ankle surgery. She should be on track to reclaim her crown and try to earn her first Unrivaled title.
