The 2026 season has just ended, but the Atlanta Braves have already gotten a start on moves – though this move isn’t likely to help the big league club for a few years. The signing by the Braves is Cuban catching prospect Anthony Calderon, a 17-year-old who will be a part of this current international class, rather than the upcoming one. His reported signing bonus was $350k, which ties him for the fifth most expensive signing in the current Braves class – the same amount breakout catching prospect Jorwin
Pulido received last winter.
Calderon is a bigger catcher at 6’4, with a physically strong and well developed frame for his age. He’s got some power to work with, but the reports of his strong defense and intangibles are what drew teams in, as the Braves had to beat out the Marlins, Rangers, and Royals to sign Calderon.
According to what’s been reported the Braves still have $533,700 remaining in their 2026 international bonus pool after this signing.
