It has been an emotional week for Purdue Volleyball but the Boilermakers have also played well on the court. Let’s take a look at the previous week:
#12 Purdue takes down #20 Minnesota in Holloway
In their first match back after dropping a 4-set match to #1 Nebraska, Purdue returned home to Holloway Gymnasium to take on #20 Minnesota. The Boilermakers would drop the first set, 25-23, before taking the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-18. Minnesota would bounce back with a 25-19 set to tie the match at 2 sets apiece.
Then, the Boilermakers used a 6-1 run to take a lead over the Golden Gophers before a 3-0 Boilermaker run helped slam the door for a set 5 and match victory.
#12 Purdue dominates Northwestern
Following the 5-set victory over a ranked Minnesota squad, Purdue wasted no time in running over a Northwestern team that is 0-10 in conference and 7-14 overall. Purdue would take the match in 3 sets, winning the sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-15.
Purdue jumps a spot to #11 in the AVCA ratings
Following a 2-0 week, the Boilermakers moved one spot better in the rankings to #11. The Boilermakers were previously ranked #11 in September and reached #10 in late September / early October before a 3-game losing streak bounced them down to #16.
#11 Purdue defeats Rutgers at home
In their third straight game at Holloway Gymnasium, Purdue would make it a 3-0 home stand by beating another weaker team in Rutgers. Purdue got off to a hot start, taking sets 1 and 2 over the Scarlet Knights 25-15 and 25-18, respectively. Rutgers showed signs of life by taking set 3 by a score of 25-16 before Purdue roared back and closed the match with a 25-14 set 4.
Kenna Wollard shares medical update
Purdue All-American outside hitter, Kenna Wollard, announced in August that she would not be playing for Purdue due to an undisclosed medical reason. This week, Wollard revealed that she has been battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma and undergoing treatments. She went on to state that the treatments “are working and I am on track to remission”. Since her announcement, support has been pouring in over social media for the Senior and it appears that the support will continue throughout the season while Wollard undergoes continuing treatments. We here at Hammer and Rails wish Kenna the very best as she continues her medical journey to kicking cancer’s ass!
