It will be a Noon kickoff tomorrow in Atlanta as the Syracuse Orange (3-4, 1-3) take on the #7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-0, 4-0). Georgia Tech is a 16.5 point favorite according to FanDuel. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and here’s what we predict will happen:
Kevin (5-2): Georgia Tech 33, Syracuse 16
Without Austin Collins at center, I’m concerned with how Syracuse will adjust to Georgia Tech’s pressure. It’s not a great situation for Rickie Collins to find his footing, but hopefully he can
connect on some quick passes and try and create some offensive tempo. On the other side of the ball, I think Syracuse will limit Haynes King’s passing, but the Yellow Jackets QB will find plenty of seams to run. The Orange keep it competitive, but Tech pulls away in the 4th and coasts to the win.
Dom (5-2): Georgia Tech 30, Syracuse 10
The Yellow Jackets have handled business despite slow starts and this is exactly how the game will play out. Syracuse’s offense will have its chances but be unable to capitalize in the first half and test Georgia Tech’s coverage down the field. Coming out of the locker room, Georgia Tech continues to run the ball, chew up clock and tire out the Orange’s defense. Like the Pittsburgh game, Syracuse has some defensive moments but can’t sustain it for the whole game.
Casey (4-3): Georgia Tech 34, Syracuse 24
Does Syracuse win this game? No — but I actually think the Orange keep it closer than most expect. We’ve seen plenty of top teams get tested in recent weeks, and even Miami just fell at home to Louisville. Whether it’s Rickie Collins or Luke Carney under center, I expect Syracuse to play loose and take a few chances. Don’t be surprised if Fran Brown dials up a trick play or two early to spark some explosive moments. Still, stopping Haynes King and the Georgia Tech offense for a full four quarters on the road is a tall task. Syracuse hangs around, but the Yellow Jackets pull away late to win by ten.
Max (5-1): Georgia Tech 38, Syracuse 13
Orange fans should be well aware of GT quarterback Haynes King by now, as he’s slashed SU for a combined six touchdowns (three rushing, three passing) over the past two seasons. Luckily for Syracuse, Kyle McCord tossed four touchdowns last year to outduel his gunslinger counterpart. While there’s always a chance, I can’t picture Rickie Collins picking up where McCord left off, especially on the road against the No. 7 team in the country. Give me the home team in an uncompetitive game.
