Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Volleyball and Hoops
Got anything planned for Labor Day weekend? Maybe after Mizzou Football’s Thursday night season opener Tiger fans can make the trip to Chicago to watch volleyball play at Wrigley Field. Yeah, that’s right.
Mizzou will play Nebraska on Sunday, September 6th nationally televised on FOX
— part of an SEC-Big Ten Challenge doubleheader with Penn State vs Kentucky. More here from Mattthew Gustafson. After missing the NCAA Tournament last season, it will be a huge opportunity for Dawn Sullivan’s team to make some noise on the national stage.
What’s next for Mizzou Athletics in the Windy City? Maybe a non-conference basketball game at the United Center?
Speaking of hoops — the offseason roster movement begins with Trent Pierce returning for his senior season, but Anthony Robinson II is entering the transfer portal.
Expect some more transfer portal activity in the days to come … so stay tuned.

It might be a bit much to say that a sweep over Auburn — a good but maybe not great SEC opponent — is a season-defining moment. But put into the context of the whole season, it’s meaningful. It gets the Tigers over .500, gets them closer to even footing in conference play, and maintains the momentum the squad has been building over the last few weeks. Making the postseason now feels like a distinct possibility rather than an outside shot. And that means something for a program like Mizzou’s.
Is Mizzou Softball BACK?
Mizzou is coming off a down season where it missed the NCAA Tournament, but the program’s overall success under Sullivan and the university’s massive alumni base in the Chicago area made it a natural choice for the match at Wrigley. Nebraska was also a no-brainer: the Huskers are college volleyball’s biggest brand and have a loyal fanbase that will likely cover the historic ballpark in a sea of red.
I can’t wait for this. Should be a lot of fun to watch.
Unfortunately, Robinson couldn’t find the best fit this season, and it makes sense for both to part ways. Best of luck to Ant wherever he lands. An easy player to root for.
Plus, we have everything covered on the hoops transfer portal front, and the big volleyball news as well.
