Your Iowa State Cyclones defeated the Arizona Wildcats by a final score of 39-14 in front of a capacity white-out crowd in Jack Trice Stadium.
This game was all Cyclones from the jump. Arizona would go on a long drive to start the game, which ended with a missed field goal, hinting at things to come for the Wildcats on the night.
A methodical Iowa State drive put Iowa State up 8, as they went for 2 due to kicker injury issues. After trading quick punts, Iowa State scored again to go up 15-0. The deep
ball was a big factor for the ‘Clones, as Chase Sowell reeled in a 40 yard pass on the drive.
Jamison Patton continued his stellar play, picking off Noah Fiffita late in the 2nd quarter, which led to another Cyclones score making it 22-0 late in the 2nd quarter. Iowa State played soft zone and Arizona capitalized, scoring before the half to make it 22-7 at the half.
Sowell, once again, blew the doors off the game to start the 2nd half, reeling in a long catch and run that prompted another touchdown, putting the Cyclone up big for good. Iowa State went deep in the bag of tricks as a hand off to Ben Brahmer went to Esklidsen for 40 yards leading to yet another touchdown.
On the evening, the stats pretty even, and Iowa State out-executed the Wildcats, having better starting field position, making tackles, and not beating themselves with penalties.
Chase Sowell led the Cyclones with 4 catches for 146. Rocco Becht did not throw a touchdown but ran for 3, and Carson Hanson led the way with 19 carries 63 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The only other headline here is some defensive injuries, with Dom Orange and Jontez Williams getting nicked up during the second half in blowout action.
