Bayern Munich’s 2025/26 season was categorically highly impressive, as the Bavarians won the double for the first time since 2020, broke the domestic goal scoring record and only lost 3 times all season. Those losses were to Arsenal FC and Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League and…erm, FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The loss to the 6th placed team in the Bundesliga Rückrunde aside, Arsenal and PSG proved to be elite European opposition, as both reached the 2026 UCL final.
The fact that Bayern
were only downed by such opposition, then, was heartening to Bayern Munich’s president, Herbert Hainer.
“At FC Bayern, we always aim to win every possible title. Winning the Champions League is, of course, extremely difficult,” he explained (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We saw again this season how close it was – we deserved to be in the final, too. The first leg [5-4 loss] against Paris was one of the best games of the past few decades. We only lost two games in this Champions League – against the two finalists. That shows the quality that FC Bayern has and what is possible here.”
Perhaps Bayern will be able to go another two steps further next year and conquer even the most elite opposition.
