AEW’s annual Blood & Guts match takes place in two weeks (Nov. 4) on Dynamite. There aren’t any faction feuds in AEW that warrant its version of War Games, so a lot of fans are interested to see how Tony Khan goes about choosing teams for the match. We got some of those answers early on during tonight’s (Oct. 21) episode of Dynamite.
Adam Copeland and AEW World Champion Will Ospreay teamed up to take on Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight of the Don Callis Family. The finish saw fellow Callis Family member
Kazuchika Okada interfere and direct Copeland’s spear right into his AEW International title. Cope’s head was busted open and he may have suffered a hematoma, moments before Fletcher pinned him for the win.
After the match was over, a few of Don’s other 657 family members (Wardlow, Mark Davis, Jake Doyle) joined the ring to surround Ospreay and Cope. Callis handed the AEW world title to Fletcher for an attack on Ospreay, but TNT Champion Darby Allin came out for the save – along with the surprise return of Steven Borden.
The Young Bucks also ran down to the ring (after getting squashed by Davis & Doyle earlier in the show) to join the babyface side of the fight.
The segment ended with Borden proclaiming that he is back in AEW, and he is back for Blood & Guts.
The last time we saw Borden on AEW programming, the referee quickly stopped his match after his head was injured on a bad landing from a mid-air collision with Knight. AEW President Tony Khan received plenty of criticism for letting Borden do a high risk spot he wasn’t experienced enough to handle. Well, it looks like Khan’s next move with Borden is to book the rookie in this very dangerous Blood & Guts match. That’s a hell of a response to the critics.
Are you surprised that Steven Borden is going right into the AEW Blood & Guts match after returning from his recent injury? Let me know your thoughts on this decision in the comments below, Cagesiders.
