Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday was nominated for Western Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced on Monday.
The Blazers went 2-1 during the week, and the veteran guard was dynamite in all three outings. Holiday averaged 25.3 points, 8.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 59.6% from the field and 57.7% from 3-point range. The impressive week was highlighted by Holiday’s 35 points, 11 assists and career-high eight 3-pointers against the Memphis Grizzlies in a 122-114 win on
Wednesday.
Holiday lost out to the otherworldly San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, who won West Player of the Week after averaging 26 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.8 blocks through four straight wins. Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. The sharpshooting guard led Miami to a 4-0 record while averaging 26.3 points per game and shooting 51.7% on 3s.
Alongside Holiday, other Western Conference nominees included Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard.
Eastern Conference nominees included Heat center Bam Adebayo, Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson and New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns.
While Holiday didn’t win West Player of the Week, this site did recognize his recent stellar play with Blazer of the Week honors, which some might argue is a more prestigious distinction.
