Dennis Gates has had Scottie Adkinson in his back pocket for a while now. Who else is out there?
Surely there isn’t going to be just the one guy in the class, right?
Correct! Well, at least Gates and company are recruiting other players. There’s still the whole “get commitments and signatures” part to do. The good news is their top targets have already set visits for the fall. Outside of Adkinson, there are currently three names to keep track of.
- Devin Cleveland
- Tyran Frazier
- Cameron Barnes
Now all three have scheduled visits this fall. Rivals/On3 Mizzou site reported Cameron Barnes will visit September 19th for the Troy game. Barnes is a Kansas
City native, out of the Lee’s Summit area. He’s listed as a 6’7 forward and the 247sports.com composite lists him as the 113th ranked player overall. He’s playing this upcoming season for the new KC area prep school called the Monarchs.
Next is Tyran Frazier, a St. Louis native who started at Hazelwood East, then spent some time at OTE before landing at Iowa United Prep last year. This upcoming season he’s transferred back to the St. Louis area to play for new powerhouse Principia. Frazier is the 40th ranked player in the 247sports composite, and the #6 center. According to multiple reports he’ll be visiting the same weekend as Cam Barnes, September 19th. He’s also visiting West Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Last is Devin Cleveland is the 34th ranked prospect in the 2027 class, and the number 8 combo guard per the composite ranking. He’s a Chicago native who is currently enrolled at La Lumiere Academy in Indiana. Multiple reports have Cleveland visiting Missouri October 3rd, which is the Florida home game. He’s also planning on visiting Alabama, TCU, and Michigan. He also listed a top 7 that included Syracuse, Marquette, and Arkansas.
Adkinson is also planning on being in town for the Cleveland visit.
Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+
Let’s start with the bad news, Ladies Soccer opened their home slate with a loss to SLU, despite a terrific crowd! Good on the students for showing up to support the building program. Jack Wiselogel (and Margo Jenkins) were on site to follow the action:
The seal finally broke for the Billikens from the penalty spot; a handball from junior forward Mia Deveroux gave reason for the official to point to the spot. Senior midfielder Jennette Fieldsend converted from 12 yards to give Saint Louis a narrow one-goal lead, and suck most of the energy from Walton Stadium. The Tigers could not find much rhythm following the finish, with the only goal-scoring opportunity coming from a disallowed finish.
From open play, Phillips continued to impress. Finishing the half with five saves, including an acrobatic one-handed denial of a curling 18-yard shot from the Billikens, which kept the Tigers afloat in a game that was slipping from their control, being outshot seven to zero in the first half.
Sounds like they played pretty well defensively, but just couldn’t generate the shots. The students are under a point system, where tickets for football and basketball games are more likely to go to those who attend other events. Still it’s good to get the support, I hope the trend continues.
FOOTBALL IS RAMPING UP
- Let’s start with the big news about Missouri’s throwback uniforms. Memorial Stadium is celebrating 100 years this season, having officially been opened in 1926, so what better way to honor that than with some fancy uniforms! Hop over to the Feed to chat about the new threads.
- Nathan had 5 questions for last week’s fall camp, and now he has five more, his question number 4 is particularly interesting to me because I was a staunch Daylan Carnell fan:
The STAR is a particularly interesting position because it requires a player capable of doing a little bit of everything. The Tigers need someone who can help stop the run from the box while also possessing enough coverage ability to survive against receivers and tight ends. The good news is that safety appears to be another deep position for Mizzou.
It’s hard to believe we’ll have watched a game of football in two weeks.
Rock M+ Swing Series continues from Matt Harris, this time he’s taken a look at Cord Stansberry:
Sure enough, WCU was 13.8 points per 100 possessions better with Stansberry on the floor, per EvanMiya.com, including a plus-9.5-point split on defense. That was tops among the Catamounts, but it’s far from confirmation of Stansberry’s defensive ability. WCU’s adjusted efficiency, for example, was still in the red when he logged minutes. And the chart below shows mixed outcomes among lineups that logged at least 25 trips.
