Newcastle United academy graduate Elliot Anderson is again at the center of transfer speculation ahead of the summer window.
The 23-year-old midfielder has impressed since being forced to leave St James’ Park for Nottingham Forest in 2024 and is now attracting attention from England’s biggest clubs.
According to The Mirror’s Jeremy Cross, “Bitter rivals Manchester United and City will go head-to-head in a battle to sign Elliot Anderson this summer.”
The report adds that both Mancunian sides have “made
the England and Nottingham Forest star one of their main transfer targets.”
Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle for £35 million due to PSR issues and has since established himself as a regular at club level and within the England setup.
The Mirror claims both City and United are prepared to compete for the £75 million-rated midfielder as they look to strengthen in central areas.
While Newcastle had previously been linked with interest in bringing Anderson back to Tyneside, The Mirror’s report focuses solely on the Manchester clubs as the leading contenders, leaving NUFC out of any realistic race for the artist known as the “Geordie Maradona.”
Forest’s league position could also influence proceedings, as they are bound for relegation and they will likely have ”no choice but to cash in on Anderson if they make a return to the Championship.”
Anderson, meanwhile, has declined to comment directly on his future.
“It’s been a big two years. I think I’ve done pretty well, to be honest, in the time I’ve been here, on and off the pitch,” Anderson said. “I think I’ve matured as a person as well. Thanks to the club, really, for giving me that platform, going out there and playing and letting me do my stuff.”
