Brendan Sorsby Deserves More Heisman Buzz
The Cincinnati quarterback has been nothing short of amazing in leading his team to a 7-1 record and a shot at a Big XII title. Sorsby has tossed at least two touchdowns in every game of the Bearcats’ current seven-game win streak, with only one interception to his 20 touchdown passes on the year. He was also Cinncy’s leading rusher with 85 yards on the ground during the 41-20 win over Baylor on Saturday, and could be in-store for a 1,000-yards rushing by season’s
end. He has the opportunity to make a statementment on Saturday at Utah with a prime time audience and College GameDay in town.
Houston is Way Ahead of Schedule
The Cougars entered the year with a roster that was supposed to be one of the very worst in the P4. Somehow, someway, Willie Fritz has done a masterful job to get the team to 7-1 following a 24-16 upset of Arizona State on Saturday. The Cougars only loss of the season came against #11 Texas Tech, and find themselves in position for a conference title run with West Virginia, UCF, TCU and Baylor to close out the season. The Cougars could fight their way into a playoff spot, which is not where anyone expected them to be heading into November.
Texas A&M is Legit
Mike Elko has the Aggies humming in just his second year with the program. Texas A&M blew past LSU 49-25 on Saturday night in what turned out to be Brian Kelly’s last game with the Tigers. The undefeated Aggies have just about everything in place for a national championship run – a dynamic dual-threat quarterback in Marcel Reed, one of the nation’s most electrifying playmakers in KC Concepcion, a stable of dependable running backs behind an outstanding offensive line. While the secondary may struggle, the defense begins upfront with a tremendous defensive line that will cause major problems for any offense. Texas A&M is not only one of the most exciting teams to watch, but are good enough to play into late January.
Big Ten Playoff Hopes Dwindle
It’s looking more likely the Big Ten only gets three teams into the playoffs this season with Penn State and Illinois failing to follow up on their preseason hype. Ohio State and Indiana seem to be on the way to first-round byes, and Oregon should be able to wrap up the regular season with at least 10 wins. Outside of the “Big 3,” Michigan, Washington, Iowa and Nebraska are hanging on with two losses. All three have tough roads ahead, and would need to rely on winning out and scoring a huge upset to reach 10-2 and leave a favorable impression on the committee.
The Coaching Carousel Spins Round and Round
After very little turnover in 2024, we’ve had news of a major programs ditching their head coaches on a near-weekly basis. Brian Kelly was the latest casualty, as yet another coach was let go despite a massive buyout – this time north of $50 million. We’re in for a wild couple of months before all the dust settles.
