New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo promised on Wedneday that nothing about the violent way he plays football will change as he returns from last season’s gruesome ankle injury.
“It ain’t gonna change who I am,” he said Wednesday on The Insiders when asked if he would alter his running style at all. “I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I’ve still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left, I’m not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I’m going to get back [to] running people
over like you see on the videos. It’s going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out.”
Skattebo suffered an ankle dislocation, fractured fibula and ruptured deltoid ligament in Week 8 last season against the Philadelphia Eagles. He rushed for 410 yards on. 101 carries (4.1 yards per attampt with five touchdowns, and caught 24 passes for another 207 yards before the injury.
The Giants have long said they expected Skattebo to participate in workouts this spring, and he met that goal. The 2025 fourth-round pick took part in mandatory minicamp, and even took a handful of reps in 11-on-11 work.
New head coach John Harbaugh is an old-school coach who loves to rely on the run game. The Giants even did 9-on-7 run-game drills during the spring, albeit without pads on, showing their belief in the importance of running the ball. Skattebo’s violent style fits with the aggressive way Harbaugh likes to play.
“Coach Harbaugh and [offensive coordinator Matt] Nagy, I’ve felt nothing but support and love from them,” Skattebo said. “They’re always on me about getting back, and they’re starting to see where I’m at in my process and they’re starting to trust it. They’ve been really good to me. I trust both of those two, as [well] as everybody else on the staff.
“It’s been nothing but joy and happiness for me, just starting to fall back in love with the game after an injury for sure.”
