Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks provided a positive update on forward Teonni Key during his radio show Monday night, easing concerns after the senior dislocated her elbow in the Wildcats’
win over Missouri.
“Teonni is in wonderful spirits,” Brooks said. “I talked to her last night. She was a little drugged up, so she was up and down. They say all things look pretty good. She should return. It could be a couple of weeks. It could be a little longer.”
Key suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s game while diving for a loose ball. She landed awkwardly on her right arm after colliding with a Missouri defender, immediately grabbing her elbow as play was stopped. The moment cast a somber tone over the rest of the quarter, but Kentucky responded with poise to maintain control of the game.
Before exiting, Key was productive in her 22 minutes on the floor. She finished with five points, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while posting a +10 plus-minus as Kentucky outscored Missouri with her on the court. Her energy and versatility were once again evident on both ends of the floor.
Despite the emotional setback, the Wildcats regrouped and closed out a 74–52 victory at Historic Memorial Coliseum, improving to 15–1 overall and 2–0 in SEC play.
While a definitive timetable has yet to be determined, Brooks’ comments suggest optimism that Key will return later this season. For now, Kentucky will monitor her recovery closely while hoping to have one of its key frontcourt pieces back sooner rather than later.
