Barcelona manager Hansi Flick spoke to the press in England on Monday ahead of his team’s Champions League clash with Newcastle on Tuesday night at St. James’ Park.
The coach was obviously asked questions about Xavi Hernández’s explosive interview but also took time to analyze the game against Newcastle and was full of praise for Barça’s young players as well. Here are the highlights from Flick’s quotes:
Xavi
“We’re colleagues and have a good relationship. I’ve visited him, we’ve met, but it’s a private
matter. I know the truth and I’m keeping it to myself. I won’t reveal it here.
“I’m only focused on the match. We’re in a nice hotel with a good atmosphere, and we’ve come directly from Bilbao. I’m sure you won’t ask me about that after the game.”
Newcastle
“The Champions League is different. Everyone wants to give their best. I expect a good team, a good atmosphere. We have to play with that. It will not be easy. You have to know how to play against your fast players and find solutions.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world. Strong teams and a lot of money. They have a lot of teams in the next round. We have a lot of quality and continue to play as Barça know how to and show it to the fans”.
Rashford
“Marcus was away for a few days and has come back strong. I haven’t decided yet, but he’s a good option [to start].”
Barça’s youngsters
“Cuba, Lamine, Fermín, Bernal… Their quality is incredible, their match in Bilbao was incredible. Watching Cubarsí defend… He took a throw-in like a corner. He’s at the same level as Lamine, but in defense. He’s 19 years old and can play at the highest level imaginable.”
