Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl has been the star of the preseason and proved it once again with a goal and an assist during the team’s 2-1 win over Grasshopper Club Zurich on Tuesday.
After the match Karl spoke about his potential playing time and some outlets (not us!) ran with his words as a demand for more playing time.
Welcome to the big leagues, kid! Karl’s statement is below.
“Everything went well in the friendlies. Now I definitely want to get playing time in the bigger games, for example
against Stuttgart in the Supercup or in the Bundesliga,” said Karl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
To say that is a demand is a complete stretch, but it did spur sporting director Christoph Freund to offer a response to try and stifle any brewing controversy.
“I don’t think he’s demanding playing time. But he’s very, very self-confident. That’s one of his greatest strengths. He knows what he’s capable of. You can see his quality on the pitch, too. Everything happened very quickly for him, but we know what we have in him. He knows what he has in FC Bayern. The goal is for him to get playing time this season. He’s on a really good path. Of course, it’s also nice when he scores goals like that in games; we see it again and again in training. So we’re looking forward to what this season will bring with him,” Freund noted.
So..there you go. No hot takes needed.
