New Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins met with media members on Wednesday to discuss his signing with the club.
Here are some hlights of the session:
Cousins praised the Raiders’ coaching staff and said it was a big reason why he he signed with Las Vegas. Cousins with in Minnesota with new head coach Klint Kubiak and new offensive coordinator Andrew Janocko.
Cousins said he told the coaches that he wants
the best quarterback to play. So, if that’s not him after training camp, Cousins says he doesn’t want to play. The current expectation is Cousins, who’ll be 38 in August, will begin the season as the starter and expected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza will be groomed on the bench for a short period of time.
Cousins met and watched film with Mendoza while he was on his pre-draft visit Tuesday. Cousins said Mendoza seems like he’s “a high-caliber person” he’s excited about the chance to play with him.
Cousins said it is a privilege to have access to Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady. He was at the team’s facility on Tuesday as they began the offseason workout program.
Cousins is reuniting with Raiders’ wide receiver Jalen Nailor, who signed as a free agent this offseason. Cousins and Nailor were in Minnesota together for two seasons. Cousins is excited about Nailor’s growth as a player.
