After nearly two years on the sidelines, Yesica Nery Plata will look to reclaim her WBC light flyweight title against reigning champ Lourdes Juarez atop an October 18th Most Valuable Prospect show at South Padre Island.
Good fishing spot, that. Don’t get trout like you used to but there’s some big-ass redfish in those waters.
Nery Plata (30-2, 3 KO), unbeaten since 2017, unified the WBA and WBC belts with an upset of Kim Clavel in January 2023 before taking out undefeated Sarah Bormann 11 months later.
She’s been out of action since, leading the WBC to give Juarez (38-4, 5 KO) a crack at the belt the following November. Juarez had a lengthy reign as a super flyweight champion before dropping back-to-back bouts to Asley Gonzalez Macias.
This looks to be a tough out for Nery Plata on the heels of a major layoff, but if she and fellow MVP signee Clavel both emerge victorious in their upcoming bouts, a lucrative-looking rematch could be on the horizon.
The show will also see unified IBF/WBO middleweight champ Desley Robinson (10-3, 3 KO) against Logan Holler (11-3-1, 4 KO) and Krystal Rosado battle Shurretta Metcalf in an 8x bantamweight battle, plus a super lightweight bout pitting Omar Juarez against Omar Rosario as the chief support. Prospects Alexis Chaparro, Alexander Gueche, Pedro Veitia, and Sebastian Juarez.
