Newcastle United grabbed their third Premier League win of the season after Bruno Guimaraes struck a 90th-minute winner to beat Fulham 2–1 at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side, coming off a thrashing of Benfica in the Champions League, started on the right foot on Saturday.
Nick Woltemade struck the post early, and just 18 minutes in, Jacob Murphy had already capitalized on a misplaced pass from Calvin Bassey, finishing across Bernd Leno to make it 1–0. Murphy nearly doubled the lead soon after but was denied one-on-one by Leno.
Fulham slowly settled and found their equalizer 11 minutes into the second half. Kevin Mbabu’s cross was headed onto the bar by Raúl Jiménez, and Sasa Lukic reacted fastest to nod in from close range.
In the process, Newcastle defender Sven Botman suffered a head injury that forced him off, adding to Howe’s growing list of defensive concerns.
Newcastle responded with a triple substitution, introducing Will Osula, Joelinton, and Harvey Barnes in search of fresh energy. The changes restored momentum for the Magpies, as Guimaraes missed narrowly with a header and Joelinton hit the side netting.
But in stoppage time, Osula burst forward on the counter that ended with a rebound falling in Bruno’s path and allowing him to curl a right-footed finish beyond Leno.
The late goal sparked wild celebrations and lifted Newcastle from 14th to 11th in the table, offering relief after two home defeats to late goals before this match.
Newcastle won’t have much time to rest, with their next game scheduled for Wednesday, as they will take on Tottenham again at SJP in the Carabao Cup’s fourth-round matchup.
