We’ve seen the report cards for Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, running back David Montgomery and wide receiver Nico Collins. This week, PFF dropped their tight end grades and Dalton Schultz shows why he’s one of Stroud’s favorite targets.
After serving a 5-year sentence as one of Jerry’s Kids, Schultz hit free agency in March of 2023 and promptly signed with the Texans. Since then, he’s caught 194 passes for 1944 yards, with 831 yards after the catch, 105 1st downs and 10 touchdowns.
In 2025,
Schultz caught 82 passes, gained 777 air yards and scored 3 touchdowns. All this was good enough to earn him a Top-15 slot in PFF’s Tight End Grades:
13. Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans
After Nico Collins, Schultz was quarterback C.J. Stroud’s favorite target in 2025. His 777 receiving yards were the sixth-most in the NFL, as were his 362 yards after the catch. Schultz also only dropped one of his 83 catchable targets all season.
He generated 362 yards after the catch, demonstrating his ability to create with the ball in his hands. His average depth of target was 6.6 yards, reflecting his role in the passing attack.
Behind Schultz the depth chart features Foster Moreau, Brevin Jordan and Marlin Klein – all promising, but none as proven in Houston’s system like Schultz.
TE2 Foster Moreau
The former Raider and Saint, Moreau brings a solid, dependable veteran presence to the tight end room. With 151 catches, 1772 receiving yards, 91 1st downs and 18 touchdowns in his 7 year career, Moreau is 2nd only to Schultz in NFL productivity.
TE3 Brevin Jordan
The 5-year veteran behind Moreau is Brevin Jordan. Drafted in 2021, Jordan has done an admirable job in the backup TE role. Unfortunately a knee injury kept him off the field in 2025. However, the big man was cleared for training camp recently with the expectation that he will contribute early and often in 2026.
TE4 Marlin Klein
Speaking of big men, the 6’6” 250lbs rookie, Marlin Klein has a lot of eyes on him heading into his first training camp. Having helped the Michigan Wolverines win a national championship in 2023, the giant German is looking to do the same in H-Town. Klein’s collegiate career was more indicative of his ability to block in the run game, than contribute as a receiver. However, when called upon to play catch, he seldom disappointed.
We often tend to rank tight ends based on their ability to play wide receiver, but their blocking contributions are often far more valuable. Having Klein on the end of the line should bode well for any Bulls On Parade antics the Texans may dial up in 2026.
With Dalton Schultz landing a 13th place overall grade, and the depth behind him, this may be the strongest Texans tight end room in recent memory. While Owen Daniels and CJF350 are nowhere to be seen, odds are they’re both smiling when they think about the future of their past position group.
