Not everyone was a fan of Bayern Munich’s opening goal, a towering Harry Kane header deftly placed beyond Gregor Kobel’s reach in the 22nd minute of Saturday’s 2-1 Der Klassiker victory over Borussia Dortmund.
BVB coach Niko Kovač was sharply critical afterwards, saying it should not have been allowed
, while Dortmund defender and reported Bayern transfer target Nico Schlotterbeck struck a more conciliatory tone regarding what he still described as a “push.”Afterward, the referee, Bastian Dankert, offered what should be a decisive final word in which he declared there was no push at all — certainly not enough to be making calls over it.
Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich falls in that camp.
“Even [BVB striker Serhou] Guirassy wasn’t complaining,” Kimmich noted in post-match comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “No, that’s not a foul. I think we all agree on that. Otherwise, we’d have to call many fouls in the penalty area on set pieces.”
Bayern Munich got off to a rousing start during its 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the latest edition of Der Klassiker, but it was a nervy ending for the Bavarians.
The home side appeared to wear down and wilt under pressure from Borussia Dortmund as the game went on, but it was a gutty effort to even preserve the win under what many would consider to be a shaky second half. Head coach Vincent Kompany will have to find a way to deal with the weariness of his boys, but for now, let’s talk about how it all played out.
