Former Magpie academy player Elliot Anderson’s rise keeps becoming a more uncomfortable story for Newcastle United each passing day.
NUFC, who sold the academy graduate during a period of PSR pressure, seemingly committed a blatant mistake in that transaction, and one that is now coming back to haunt them following Anderson’s British-record sale to Man City.
According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle do not have a sell-on clause or buy-back clause in Anderson’s deal as the midfielder completed his move
from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for a ridiculous £130 million fee, per the BBC.
Newcastle sold Anderson to Forest for £35million, as the Magpies were under pressure at the time to sell a homegrown player because of PSR concerns.
CaughtOffside noted that even a 20 or 25 percent sell-on clause would have produced a significant windfall for Newcastle of around £25-30 million.
For context, the Magpies spent £25 million on backup goalie Ewen Jaouen.
