What is the story about?
With Luis Díaz unavailable for “weeks”, Bayern Munich may need to get creative when it comes to filling the Colombian’s spot on the left wing. Díaz has brought explosive pace, direct dribbling, relentless pressing, and a knack for creating danger in the final third. Replacing that combination is no easy task, so Vincent Kompany has several options to consider. Here are six possible solutions:
- Alphonso Davies: Move Phonzy further forward and use his incredible pace to stretch opposing defenses. His attacking qualities could make him a dangerous option, although it would require adjustments elsewhere.
- Nathaniel Brown: Give the young German full-back an opportunity in a more advanced role, using his energy, technical ability, and versatility to offer something different on the left.
- Serge Gnabry: Turn to an experienced attacker who can cut inside, combine with his teammates, and provide a goal threat from the wing.
- Ismael Saibari: Consider a more unconventional option who could bring physicality, creativity, and versatility to Bayern’s attack.
- Lennart Karl: Give the highly rated youngster another opportunity to showcase his technical ability, confidence, and attacking instincts against top-level opposition.
- Tim Binder: Throw another name into the conversation and consider whether the youngster could provide an unexpected solution.
There is no perfect like-for-like replacement for Díaz, but Kompany has several ways to approach the problem.
Does Bayern prioritize pace and directness, experience and goal-scoring, or an opportunity to give a younger player valuable minutes?
Who would you choose to start at left wing in Díaz’s absence, and why?
