Newcastle have their Alexander Isak replacement. The Magpies have agreed a €90M (£78M) package including an €85M (£73.5M) base fee with Stuttgart to sign 23-year-old Germany international Nick Woltemade, with the player having said farewell to his teammates and currently travelling to England where he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer.
With that domino having finally fallen, as expected it now appears Liverpool are set to move swiftly to complete the signing of 25-year-old Sweden international
Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a British record transfer fee. That’s the latest from The Times, who say that a proposal for a package totalling £130M could soon be on its way to Newcastle to secure Isak’s services.
Liverpool previously had a £110M offer for Isak rejected out of hand, but Woltemade’s fee and wages make retaining Isak implausible for Newcastle from the standpoint of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. They are expected to continue their pursuit of Brentford’s Yoane Wissa but not Wolves’ Jørgen Strand Larsen following the Woltemade deal.
It’s possible Liverpool’s Isak offer could include a base fee as high as £120M, and it is likely that, no matter the public reporting on matters, Newcastle’s rapid move to secure Woltemade means that an agreement for the Isak transfer has already been all but agreed between the two clubs. Personal terms between Liverpool and the player are already in place.
In addition to Isak, Liverpool will be seeking to secure a deal for Crystal Palace and England centre half Marc Guéhi before the transfer window gets slammed shut on Monday night, and with Palace having secured their place in the Europa Conference League this evening it is believed the London club will now be willing to sanction a departure for their captain.
