Jonas Urbig’s development at Bayern Munich could soon result in another significant payment to his former club, Köln.
According to Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich will pay Köln more than €1 million as soon as Urbig makes his senior debut for the German national team. The payment is part of the performance-related add-ons included in the agreement that brought the goalkeeper to Munich in January 2025.
As was confirmed on Wednesday, Urbig will start for Jürgen Klopp vs. Serbia.
Bayern Munich initially agreed to pay a fixed €7 million for Urbig, but the total value of the transfer can rise considerably depending on how many bonuses are ultimately triggered. With all of the agreed add-ons, the deal could reach as much as €15 million.
That means a Germany debut would not only represent another major milestone in Urbig’s career, but also activate one of the more substantial clauses in the transfer agreement.
Urbig has already become an increasingly important part of Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping plans. With Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich potentially approaching the end of their careers, Urbig is viewed as the club’s planned No. 1 for next season.
A Germany debut would provide another indication of his rapid rise while simultaneously delivering Köln another sizeable financial boost from the original transfer.
