Frenkie de Jong is back in full training with Barcelona
and hoping to make a comeback shortly from a knee injury that means he’s not featured at all for Hansi Flick’s side this season.Barca enjoyed a perfect start to the season without De Jong before the international break, winning all eight matches and scoring goals for fun.
The arrival of Rodri in the summer from Manchester City, means that De Jong hasn’t really been missed during his time on the sidelines.
Indeed the Dutchman looks like facing
a real battle for minutes when he returns given Flick also has Pedri, Gavi, Marc Bernal, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez and young Brian Farinas in his first-team squad.
The situation has even led to online debate about whether Frenkie even has a place still at Barca. A recent poll from Catalunya Radio’s Onze show had ‘no’ winning by 80% when fans were asked to respond to that particular question.
Rumors that Barca could look to sell De Jong have already returned but aren’t likely to bother the midfielder who has had to put up with such talk throughout his Barcelona career.
The big question now is where does De Jong fit in when he does return? Can he fight his way back and become a regular under Flick once more or might he have to settle for a bench role?
So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is:
Where does Frenkie de Jong fit in at Barcelona once he’s fully fit again?
Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and answers in the comments section below!
