Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs won their ninth-straight game, 5-3 over the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 5-3.
Austin Gomber won his second game in as many starts for Iowa, allowing just one run on six hits over five innings. Gomber struck out four and walked one.
Ryan Brasier struggled in
a rehab appearance in relief of Gomber. He faced three batters and walked all three. Two of them came around to score after he was relieved by Jack Neely.
Jordan Wicks pitched the final three innings, didn’t allow a run and got the save. Wicks gave up two hits. He struck out three and walked no one.
Center fielder James Triantos hit a solo home run in the third inning, his sixth on the season. Triantos went 1 for 2 with two walks. He scored twice.
DH Carlos Pérez homered with the bases empty in the fourth inning, his 27th home run this year. Pérez was 2 for 4 with a RBI double and the home run. He had two runs batted in.
Triantos’ home run didn’t look like one off the bat, but it had some fire in it.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies defused the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels), 3-1.
Yenrri Rojas pitched the first four innings and allowed one run on two hits. He walked three and struck out five.
Nick Hull pitched the fifth inning and was awarded the win because Rojas didn’t go five innings. Hull allowed one hit. He did not have a strikeout or a walk.
Four more pitchers each threw one scoreless inning to finish out the game: Zac Leigh, Evan Taylor, Mitchell Tyranski and Tyler Santana. Tyranski pitched the ninth and got the save. He walked the first batter he faced but struck out the next one and then ended the game with a 4-6-3 double play.
First baseman Pablo Aliendo hit a three-run home run in the first inning. It was Aliendo’s 13th home run this seaosn. He was 1 for 4.
Second baseman Pedro Ramirez went 2 for 4. Third baseman BJ Murray Jr. went 2 for 4 with a double. Both players scored on Aliendo’s home run.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs skinned the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 5-1.
Kenten Egbert came very close to pulling off something that is almost unheard of in the minors these days—a nine-inning complete-game shutout. Instead, he gave up an RBI single with two outs in the ninth and was pulled for Connor Spencer who got a pop out to end the game.
The final line on Egbert was one run on seven hits over 8.2 innings. Egbert struck out four and walked no one.
Catcher Logan Poteet hit his first professional home run in the first inning with two men on. Poteet went 2 for 4.
Center fielder Leonel Espinoza was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. He scored on Poteet’s home run.
This ends the season for South Bend, who finish the second half with a 33-32 record. Their full-season record was 56-75.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were leading 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI infield single by Justin Stransky when the rains came. The rest of the game was cancelled and will not be made up as this is the final day of the season.
The Pelicans finish the second half with a record of 43-21, the best record in the Carolina League. They finished the first half with a record of 25-39, which was the worst record in the Carolina League.
The Pelicans face Columbia at home on Tuesday in the first game of the best-of-three division series.
