Reigning UFC featherweight champion, Alex Volkanovski, already agreed to fight No. 4-ranked title contender, Lerone Murphy, because unlike this former 145-pound kingpin, Volkanovski doesn’t “say no to everyone.”
Not surprisingly, Murphy is also on board after toe-tagging Aaron Pico at UFC 319.
So what’s the holdup?
“I thought that’s what it was going to be, but there might be a spanner in the works,” Volkanovski told Submission Radio. “February in Sydney, is it February?”
“The spanner isn’t me, I will fight him tomorrow,” Murphy responded in a since-deleted tweet. “I understand, I am a very risky last fight. They will avoid me like the plague now because they know I have realized my potential.”
After deleting the tweets, Murphy updated his Twitter timeline.
“He didn’t say no to me,” Murphy added. “I think he is referring to the date. I will be ready whenever. Let’s wait and see!”
The undefeated Murphy (17-0-1) has three fighters ranked above him, but Volkanovski already holds victories over Diego Lopes (No. 2) and Yair Rodriguez (No. 3) and the promotion hates Movsar Evloev (N0. 1). Hopefully matchmakers have an announcement for us in the next couple of weeks.
