Number four ranked TCU Soccer is still unbeaten in 2025 after winning a thriller over Texas in Austin on Thursday night. An 84th minute goal on a header from Morgan Brown gave the Frogs a late 3-2 lead that held and moved TCU to 4-0 on the season. While Texas is no longer ranked in the top 25 after a loss in their opener to Northwestern State, this was a very big win on the road for the Frogs against a team that had high expectations coming into 2025.
The game started fast with both teams trading shots and corner kicks in the first five minutes. Texas was awarded a penalty kick and Amalia Villarreal converted for the Longhorns giving Texas an early 1-0 lead. The Frogs pushed back quickly looking for an equalizer with shots on goal from Seven Castain and Grace Vest. True freshman Kamdyn Fuller tied the game up in the 19th minute on a header off of a great pass from Morgan Brown. AJ Hennessey also picked up an assist on the play, her first of the year. Fuller is tied for the team lead in goals with three this season and has showcased the ability to produce from multiple positions, starting games at both forward and defense this season.
Castain continued to apply pressure to the Texas defense, launching three shots in the twelve minutes following the goal. Midfielder Kaela Martinez found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to give the Frogs a 2-1 lead with her first career goal. Martinez collected a rebound following a shot on goal from Marli Galdamez and buried the open shot.
Texas pushed to tie the game, but the TCU defense held until halftime with goalie Olivia Geller erasing a shot on goal from the Longhorns. TCU led in total shots (11-7) and shots on goal (8-3) at halftime and was the better team through the first 45 minutes.
The Texas offense came out of the break aggressively, tallying two shots and drawing a corner kick in the 54th minute. The Longhorns converted on the corner and tied the game at 2-2 early in the second half. Both teams pushed for a go ahead goal, trading shots and fouls in the next four minutes following the goal. The defenses then settled in, limiting chances and leading to almost 20 minutes without a shot on goal from either team. Texas had a chance in the 72nd minute and tallied a shot on goal that was saved by Geller. The Frogs pushed back with a shot on goal of their own from Hennessey and a corner kick. The teams again traded shots on goal with TCU’s resulting in another corner kick for the Frogs and in the 84th minute, Morgan Brown headed the game winner into the back of the net off of a great corner kick from Kamdyn Fuller. Brown’s height and ability to be accurate and powerful with her headers continues to be a weapon for TCU.
The Frogs shut down all equalizing attempts from the Longhorns as Texas did not record a shot on goal after the goal. While they did not show up in the scoring column, Seven Castain and Grace Vest both had productive games for the Frogs with four and three shots on goal in the game respectively.
This game was the last of a three game road trip where the Frogs went 3-0 with two wins over preseason top 25 teams including a 3-2 win over number nine ranked Iowa. The Frogs will return home for their next game on September 4th at 7:00 pm when they will face off against the Northwestern Wildcats.
